New Brunswick goes online in search for doctors

Launches Web site in effort to educate physicians about the benefits of working in the province

New Brunswick has taken its search for doctors online with a new Web site aimed at recruiting and retaining physicians.

The site provides information on the province’s population, lifestyle and natural environment to physicians who are interested in relocating to New Brunswick in addition to information on the various options for remuneration available to them.

“Physicians are on the front line of health care and are among the most important and trusted partners in the delivery of health care services,” said Elvy Robichaud, New Brunswick’s Health and Wellness Minister. “We hope this innovative tool will bring great benefits to their profession.”

Robichaud said the site will highlight incentives to persuade physicians to practice in New Brunswick, such as summer employment for medical students and location grants for physicians who choose to practice in under-serviced areas of New Brunswick.

New Brunswick doctors looking for a replacement to care for their patients while they are absent can also advertise the opportunity on the Web site. Similarly, any physician who is interested in offering their services can advertise their availability and also consult the various replacement opportunities available in the province.

The site can be accessed by visiting http://www.gnb.ca/index-e.asp and clicking on the keyword “physician.”
