One-half of companies block access to online shopping sites

Just 16 per cent allow unrestricted access: Survey

As Black Friday and Cyber Monday approach, Canadian companies are less lenient when it comes to letting employees shop online during business hours, according to a Robert Half Technology survey.

One-half (51 per cent) of CIOs interviewed said their companies block access to online shopping — up from 32 per cent in 2012 but down from 56 per cent in 2013.

Sixteen per cent allow unrestricted access to shopping while 30 per cent allow access but monitor activity for excessive use, according to the survey of 270 CIOs.
