Canada's economy shrinks by 0.2 per cent in November

Declines in manufacturing, mining, oil and gas

OTTAWA (Reuters) — Canada's economy unexpectedly shrank by 0.2 per cent in November, led by declines in manufacturing, mining, and the oil and gas sector, Statistics Canada data indicated on Friday.

Manufacturing output fell 1.9 per cent after two months of gains, while mining and quarrying declined by 2.5 per cent. Oil and gas extraction retreated by 0.7 per cent on a decline in the exploitation of unconventional sources of crude such as the Alberta oil sands.
