Three-quarters only hiring for open IT roles
Fourteen per cent of Canadian technology executives expect to expand their IT teams in the first half of 2016.
That is a seven-point increase from the previous six months and a three-point decrease from a year ago, according to a survey by Robert Half.
Seventy-four per cent plan to hire only for open IT roles while 12 per cent will put hiring plans on hold, found the survey of 270 CIOs.
"Employers need to be prepared with attractive offers and incentives as the competition heats up for skilled IT professionals, moving into the first half of 2016. Meanwhile, job seekers with in-demand skills should anticipate managing multiple offers and have a firm understanding of local hiring trends in order to negotiate salaries and compensation packages decisively," said Deborah Bottineau, senior regional manager for Robert Half Technology.
Thirty-five per cent of CIOs alsor revealed it is somewhat challenging to find skilled IT professionals.
Greatest demand in the industry is for database managers, with 71 per cent of CIOs in agreement. Sixty-five per cent said network administrators are needed and another 62 per cent revealed they are lacking skilled wireless network managers.
