Air Canada, IMAX and the University of New Brunswick are among the winners of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for 2017, according to Mediacorp. The national competition determines which employers lead their industries in offering exceptional workplaces for employees.

Thomson Reuters, publisher of Canadian HR Reporter, has been named to the list. This was the first year the corporation applied on behalf of all Thomson Reuters Canada employees. Its Legal Division in Canada has been named a Top 100 Employer for the past eight years.

"Things like career advancement and training are important when starting our careers, or family-friendly benefits and time-off as we gain more experience," said Richard Yerema, managing editor at Mediacorp Canada, which manages the competition. "To secure a place on a list such as Canada's Top 100 Employers, an employer has to do everything well — it's like being a hockey player who excels at both defence and offence, or an athlete who wins a triathlon."

Editors at Mediacorp grade employers on eight criteria: physical workplace; work atmosphere and social; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time-off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.
