Beijing raises minimum wage

City increases minimum monthly wage by $3.60 (U.S.)

The minimum wage rate for workers in the City of Beijing rose to $59.80 (U.S.) per month on Jan. 1, according to the Beijing Office of Labour and Social Security.

That represents an increase of $3.60 (U.S.) per month. The new minimum wage rate applies to all employees in the public and private sector.

Mao Ai, an official with the Beijing Office of Labour and Social Security, said the minimum rate is based on the average indices of prices, salaries and other statistics.

The city adopted a minimum wage in 1994 when the government required employers to pay at least $25.30 (U.S.) per month.
