Design Group buys The People Bank

Edmonton-based staffing firm acquires Toronto-based company

Design Group Staffing Inc., an Edmonton-based staffing firm, has swallowed up The People Bank.

Mike Duff, president and CEO of Design Group, said the acquisition — effective Aug. 30 — is part of the company’s strategy to build staffing services through strategic acquisitions.

“Many of People Bank’s services are compatible with those provided by (Design Group). They bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the areas of office administration, information technology, financial services and medical recruiting,” said Duff.

After the acquisition, Design Group now employs 210 full-time staff members and a contract workforce of 2,100 in 17 branch offices in 12 cities across Canada.

The People Bank, created in 1981, was originally a subsidiary of Herzing College which offers adult education courses across Canada and the United States. Herzing recently divested its staffing arm to focus on its primary business.

Since 1976 Design Group Staffing Inc. has been providing businesses with contract, temporary, leased and full-time technical, information technology, professional and administrative personnel.
