New Brunswick Premier to chair Learn @ Work Week

Inaugural event will highlight workplace learning initiatives

New Brunswick Premier Bernard Lord will be the honorary chair for the first ever Learn @ Work Week, a national celebration of workplace learning and performance excellence.

The Canadian Society for Training and Development (CSTD) named Lord as the chair in recognition of his government’s commitment to workplace learning as a cornerstone of economic development.

“Our government has made learning a priority, with our commitment to the Quality Learning Agenda and post-secondary education, and by working closely with organizations like LearnNB,” said Lord.

“Investment in workplace learning is extremely important to Canada’s economy. Our workforce needs this investment to ensure we retain our competitive edge,” said Dale Wilcox, president of the CSTD board of directors. “We recognize the premier’s leadership in this area and are delighted to name him as the honorary chair of the inaugural Learn @ Work Week.”

The event, taking place from Sept. 19 to 23, will feature 15 CSTD-organized events across Canada highlighting the importance of workplace learning initiatives. Another 30 public and private Canadian organizations are holding their own events as part of the celebration.

Lord will be the keynote speaker at the CSTD New Brunswick chapter’s annual general meeting on Sept. 15 in Fredericton. For more information about Learn @ Work activities, visit the CSTD website.
