Guide helps Manitoba employers craft climate change solutions
A new business guide gives small and medium-sized Manitoba businesses practical solutions to reduce greenhouse gases and save on energy costs.
The guide, The bottom line on climate change: A Manitoba business guide, was developed by the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce and the Climate Change Connection, an environmental group funded by the provincial and federal governments and Manitoba Hydro.
"I congratulate Climate Change Connection on developing an accessible, practical resource for Manitoba businesses looking to save money on energy costs and protect the environment by reducing their greenhouse gas emissions," said Manitoba Minister of Energy, Science and Technology Dave Chomiak.
The guide is targeted to small and medium-sized businesses, which often don't have environmental specialists on staff and often have little time for environmental initiatives.
Increasing energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions can lead to many benefits for businesses, including reduced costs, higher productivity, an enhanced brand image and improved employee morale, said Chomiak.
Businesses can use Manitoba Hydro's Power Smart for Business program for technical and financial assistance for energy-efficient retrofits to help implement some of the guide's recommendations.
