South African domestic worker gets life for killing boss

58-year-old bound and gagged boss, robbed her and left her for dead

A South African court has sentenced a 58-year-old domestic worker to life in prison for killing her employer.

Anna Kumbe, her lover Daniel Moepadire and nephew Paseka John Au were convicted of killing Johanna Edwards in August 2003.

Moepadire and Au were each sentenced to 25 years for the murder and all three received an additional sentence of 15 years for robbing Edwards.

Kumbe worked for Edwards, 56, for 23 years. Kumbe's daughter, Massabata, demanded money from her and convinced Kumbe to rob Edwards.

Kumbe, Moepadire and Au went to Edwards' house wearing balaclavas and gloves. Once inside, they tied Edwards' hands behind her with a curtain and stuffed a cloth into her mouth.

They ransacked the house and stole about $12,500 Cdn, leaving Edwards bound and gagged in her bedroom. She was found dead the next morning from suffocation.
