HRPA creates guideline for HR professionals

The Ontario-based Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) has developed its first practice guideline, Requesting Notes to Validate Absences from Work from Physicians or Other Treating Health Care Professionals. Quebec, Manitoba increase health and safety fines

In Manitoba, fines for workplace health and safety violations increased under Bill 4, the Workplace Safety and Health Amendment Act, which came into force on June 17. Fines increased from $150,000 to $250,000 for a first offence and from $300,000 to $500,000 for subsequent offences. In Quebec, fines under Bill 35, the Act respecting occupational health and safety, doubled on July 1, and will triple on Jan. 1, 2011. Fines for corporations increased from $500-$1,000 to $1,000-$2,000 for a first offence and from $5,000-$20,000 to $10,000-$40,000 if they endanger a worker.
