See you in New Brunswick

Come visit Canadian HR Reporter at the Thomson Reuters booth at the Atlantic HR conference

By Todd Humber

I’m packing my bags and heading east to attend the 2012 Atlantic HR Conference in Saint John, N.B.

I’m excited about the trip primarily for two reasons. First, other than driving through it once in the 1990s without stopping on my way to Halifax, I’ve never been to Saint John. And two, it’s an opportunity to get out, network and meet some great HR professionals — which really is one of my favourite parts of the job.

In doing some preparation for the conference, which is being hosted by the Human Resources Association of New Brunswick (HRANB), I watched a video the organizers put together — you can view it on the conference’s homepage at

Paul Juniper, director of the Industrial Relations Centre at Queen’s University, is quoted in the video.

“I would recommend that HR people always attend conferences when they can,” he says. “If nothing else, because of the networking. It’s their opportunity to meet people and engage.”

I couldn’t agree more. This year’s event, taking place at the Hilton Saint John from Nov. 21 to Nov. 23, looks like a great one.

In addition to a strong lineup of keynote speakers and concurrent sessions, there’s also a tradeshow featuring more than 30 vendors.

If you’re attending the conference, please take some time to drop by the Thomson Reuters booth at the tradeshow. Whether you’re interested in writing an article for us, just want to say hello or if you want to discuss some of the hot topics in HR at the moment, we’d love to see you.

Plus you can pick up a free copy of Canadian HR Reporter, plus some other goodies.

Hope to see you there.

Agreed - it was a great event. More than 200 HR professionals attended the 2012 Atlantic HR Conference. It featured some really get sessions and a strong keynote finale from David Chilton, author of the Wealthy Barber and one of the stars of CBC's Dragon's Den.

The awards banquet was also a hit -- three top HR professionals were honoured. The team putting on the conference did a great job in organizing a top-tier conference.
