CHRP candidate? You can't say that anymore

Term being phased out in order to 'avoid any ambiguity," says HRIA

Professionals pursuing the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation will no longer be able to use the phrase “CHRP Candidate,” according to a post on the Human Resources Institute of Alberta’s (HRIA) website.

“This change has arisen in order to avoid any ambiguity pertaining to one’s credentials and to protect the use of the designation for authorized individuals only,” the post said. The Canadian Council of Human Resources Associations (CCHRA) has recommended the change following discussions with its member associations to provide better distinction between those who hold the designation and those pursuing it.

As of July 2014, anyone who has passed the National Knowledge Exam (NKE) will be referred to as “certification candidates” only, the posting on HRIA's website said.

“As a result, we request that individuals ensure they represent themselves in the appropriate manner on resumés, business cards, emails, Linked-In or any other public profiles by removing any references to ‘CHRP Candidate,’” the post said. “We know that the CHRP designation is valued by the employment community as we receive an increasing number of requests to verify credentials. With the mobility of individuals across the country, it is important to assure that our stakeholders have the correct information regarding a member’s status as it relates to certification.”
