Saskatchewan employers post more than 13,000 jobs in May

Many postings for trades, transport

Saskatchewan’s largest job-matching website, SaskJobs.ca, saw 13,450 job postings in May, a 53-per-cent increase over the same month last year, according the provincial government.

Employers from 314 Saskatchewan communities posted opportunities to the site.

"A cornerstone of the Saskatchewan advantage is the ability of our people to benefit from our growing economy," said Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration Minister Rob Norris. "By posting more than 13,000 jobs in May, Saskatchewan employers have created an opportunity for workers to do just that."

Of the 13,450 jobs posted:

•almost one-third were in the trades and transport category

•about three-quarters — almost 10,000 jobs — were full-time

•about one-half came from came from communities outside Regina or Saskatoon.

The increase in opportunities also sparked a 13-per-cent increase in the number of visits to the site by jobseekers from across Canada and around the world. SaskJobs hosted 868,000 visits in May — a record for that month. Of particular note, visits from outside Canada increased by 35 per cent, said the government.
