Service Canada's Job Bank offline

Federal government scrambles to bring service back online following security breach

Service Canada’s Job Bank is offline as the federal government scrambles to do a security upgrade on the service.

"Unfortunately, there was a security issue with the job bank," Human Resources Minister Diane Finley said in the House of Commons. "It was identified and all the appropriate parties were notified, including the privacy commissioner."

Visitors to the online site are met with a message that reads: "Job Bank and Job Bank for Employers are currently unavailable due to technical difficulties."

Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) said it's "working around the clock to restore the site as quickly as possible."

HRSDC said five employer accounts were affected by the "limited but serious security issue." There are 135,000 employers in the system, it said, and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner was contacted immediately.
