Bombardier, CIBC among top employers for workers over 40

Benefits include extended health coverage, phased-in retirement

Bombardier, EllisDon and CIBC are among the Top Employers for Canadians Over 40 for 2013, according to the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers.

This year’s 15 winners represent some of the best employers in their fields, according to Richard Yerema, managing editor of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project at Mediacorp Canada.

"They offer employees, and prospective employees, the type (of) benefits many are seeking as they decide where best to apply their skills and experience in progressing through their careers."

Winners were based on eight criteria in terms of whether they: offer interesting programs to assist older workers; actively recruit new workers 40 years and older; take into account the unique concerns of older workers in HR policies, such as recognizing prior work experience in determining vacation; offer a pension plan with reasonable employer contributions; assist older employees with retirement and succession planning; create opportunities for retirees to stay socially connected through organized social activities and volunteering; extend health coverage and similar benefits after retirement; and offer programs, such as mentorship and phased-in retirement.
