Public servants may soon have increased protection when complaining about wrongdoings by the federal government.
A private member’s bill, nicknamed the “whistleblower’s bill” has been introduced by New Brunswick PC MP Greg Thompson.
The bill was designed to protect public servants, looking out for the public good by raising a red flag about certain government actions.
If the bill is passed, a public-interest commissioner position to investigate complaints would be created. Employers would be prohibited from firing whistleblowers.
