Number of Canadians receiving EI edges up
Newfoundland and Labrador only jurisdiction to buck the trend as number of recipients increases 3.9 per cent

The number of Canadians receiving employment insurance benefits in July rose 3.9 per cent from June.
That translates into about 573,150 people who received EI benefits. The largest month-to-month gains were in Manitoba (up 9.9 per cent) and Saskatchewan (9.3 per cent). Newfoundland and Labrador was the only jurisdiction to show a decrease in the number of people receiving benefits.
Payments made in July totaled $809.4 million, up 20.7 per cent from June. Here are the statistics by jurisdiction:
