HR professionals who are members of the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) may soon be exempt from certain privacy legislation for the purposes of conducting workplace investigations, according to the association.
Legislative amendments were tabled this week which, if passed, would exempt HRPA members who conduct workplace investigations from the
Private Security andInvestigation Services Act, 2005 (PSISA).
If the amendments pass, members in good standing will have the authority and powers to conduct investigations without having to get a private investigators licence or be regulated by the Ministryof Community Safety and Correctional Services, according to the provincial government.
The bill has passed first reading and is expected to pass in the fall.
