Employers are offering Canadian workers more incentives in order to combat the shrinking skilled labour force, according to a new survey.
The survey by online job site CareerBuilder.ca of 246 Canadian employers and 455 employees found employers will become more creative in their recruitment and retention efforts as the baby boomers move closer to retirement.
Some of the incentives they'll offer employees include higher salaries, increased training and more flexible work cultures.
Other findings include:
• 43 per cent of employers have open positions for which they can't find qualified candidates
• 44 per cent of workers say they are interested in changing careers altogether
• 32 per cent of employers said they hired temporary staff members in the first half of 2007
• 39 per cent of employers said they were likely or somewhat likely to move temporary employees into permanent positions
