44-year-old woman files human rights complaint after firing
A 44-year-old exotic dancer has filed a complaint with the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, alleging the owner of a strip club fired her because she was too old.
The Toronto-area woman, Kim Ouwroulis, told the CBC she was fired last summer and was told by the strip club manager that the club was going in a "new direction with younger girls."
She alleges three other women were fired for the same reason.
Ouwroulis started dancing at age 40 and since her termination she has found work at another club.
Under the Ontario Human Rights Code, employers are prohibited from discriminating against a worker based on her age, unless there is a bona fide job requirement.
However, this case will look at how appearance, as it relates to age, plays a part in a person's ability to do the job.
