Human resources? There’s an app for that

Canadian HR Reporter launches app for Apple and Android devices – plus we've got a bonus for students

By Todd Humber

A couple of years ago, Canadian HR Reporter developed an internal mantra. It is, unofficially, “to provide HR professionals with the information they need in whatever format they want.”

Last week, we took another giant leap forward in delivering on that promise with the launch of the Canadian HR Reporter app.

No, you can’t fling Angry Birds at the accounting or marketing departments, or at structures of dubious quality. (At least not yet.) But what you can do is view the publication in its original print layout on a wide variety of devices including iPads, iPhones, iPods and Android phones.

It’s very cool.

It’s easy to get.

And it’s free.

The app is a free download from the Apple or Android stores, and paid subscribers to the print issue of Canadian HR Reporter can download issues for free.

Simply go to the Apple store or the Android store on your mobile device and search for Canadian HR Reporter. Download the app and you’ll be up and running in no time.

As a subscriber, just enter the email address you use to access Canadian HR Reporter’s website when prompted by the app. If we don’t have your email address on file, you’ll need to update your profile in order to gain access. Simply go to and enter the first name, last name and postal code as it appears on your mailing label. (Not a subscriber? Start your subscription today.)

The app itself does plenty of cool things. You can read the paper anywhere you go, and it’s very intuitive. Just swipe the screen to flip pages, or pinch to zoom in and out. You can click on related links, and watch videos. Interested in an advertisement? Simply click on its URL and you’ll be taken to that company’s website.

If you don’t have a mobile device, you can access the digital edition of Canadian HR Reporter on your desktop or laptop. To do that, make sure you’re signed up for online access (see above) and you’ll get an email every two weeks with a link to the current digital edition.

We hope you like the new app. We’re constantly investing in new technology to bring our readers the best experience. And if you’re a big fan of the print issue of Canadian HR Reporter, don’t worry. It’s not going anywhere. The new app and digital edition are designed to enhance, not replace, your print subscription.

Bonus for students

The 2012 issue of our student publication, HRP, is also available. It’s packed with information for people thinking about a career in HR, those about to graduate and start their HR careers or for HR professionals looking for professional development.

This 44 page online magazine features a range of articles, including:

•a profile of Jaci Edgeworth, the head of HR at Lululemon and a key driver behind the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, and how she got to where she is today

•advice on how to network like a professional

•tips on landing your first job

•how to manage your online presence

Plus lots more. To access HRP, simply go to and click on the cover image. You can view the publication for free — all you have to do is enter your email address.

Thanks for the comment about the Canadian HR Reporter app in the Apple Store. We recently switched providers for the digital edition of the publication, which meant the old app is no longer supported. We are working on a building a new app, and it will be launching shortly.

In the interim, you can still access the digitial edition of Canadian HR Reporter on any device through its browsers. Subscribers to the print edition of Canadian HR Reporter receive a digital edition notification via email each time a new issue comes out.

    Thanks for your patience!
