Town of Richmond Hill, The Redwood among organizations recognized for diversity

New corporate award given to TD Bank

Four organizations have been recognized for their commitment and innovation in creating inclusive boards of governance: Peel Children’s Aid, The Redwood, the Town of Richmond Hill and TD Bank Group .

The Diversity in Governance Awards awards are given out annually by DiverseCity onBoard, part of DiverseCity: The Greater Toronto Leadership Project. A joint initiative of Maytree and the Greater Toronto CivicAction Alliance, the project connects qualified candidates from Aboriginal, visible minority and under-represented immigrant communities to agencies, boards and commissions in the public and non-profit sectors.

The 2010 winners were recognized for being ahead of the curve in embracing diversity at the highest level of their organizations.

“They exemplify good practices in building and benefiting from racially and ethnically diverse boards of governance,” said a release. “The four organizations understand that since the GTA is one of the most culturally diverse regions in the world, organizations and institutions should reflect the people they serve."

Peel Children’s Aid won in the non-profit board category, The Redwood (a shelter for women and children) won in the small, non-profit board category, the Town of Richmond Hill won in the public board category and TD Bank won the new corporate award.
