Top employers continue to evolve

Wellness, work-life balance initiatives distinguish winners

The 17th annual Canada’s Top 100 Employers list is officially out — and what sets winners apart is an ongoing commitment to evolve and grow with workers’ needs.

The winners for 2016 were announced Monday in the Globe and Mail, and were evaluated on eight separate criteria. Employers were compared to other similar workplaces in their field.

There were several repeat winners, including Carswell, a division of Thomson Reuters, Stryker Canada and Telus.

Repeat winners continued to innovate, particularly in areas such as wellness, paternity/maternity benefits and work-life balance, according to the editors of the annual awards.

Award-winner included more novel offerings as well, such as the living wage employer initiative by the Vancouver City Savings Credit Union and the “no limit” vacation policy offered by Verafin in St. John’s.

A conference with more information on the winners, the Top Employers Summit, will take place November 16 and 17 at the Hilton Hotel in Toronto.
