Jobs surge by 67,200 in September

Unemployment rate holds at seven per cent

OTTAWA (Reuters) - Canada's economy added 67,200 jobs in September, according to Statistics Canada data released Friday, coming in above economists' expectations for a gain of 10,000.

Self-employment increased by 50,100, while the number of other types of employees increased by 17,000.

The services sector, which includes education services, public administration and professional, science and technical services, led the gain, up a total of 55,500 jobs. The goods producing sector increased by 11,600 jobs.

The unemployment rate was unchanged at seven per cent in September.
