Winners chosen by all workers, including contractors, freelancers
ATCO, MEG Energy and construction firm Nomodic are among the winners of the inaugural Canada’s Workforce Choice Awards.
Presented by Bowen Group, a staffing and recruitment agency, the best workplaces were chosen by the entire workforce, says Kersti McDonald, marketing and communications specialist at Bowen Group in Calgary.
“All types of employees need a voice in the workplace, and looking at the North American working population right now, about 30 per cent of these workers are contingent, so they’re contractors or freelancers or seasonal workers. And we often see that these workers not given voice in the workplace so this award was meant to give a voice to everyone in the workplace, regardless of their work status.”
Nominees were ranked on their answers to 10 survey questions covering employee experience, company values, practices, performance and policies, she says.
The winners in the eight categories are:

- Health, Wellness & Safety: ATCO
- Innovation: SAIT
- Indigenous Engagement: MEG Energy
- Community Connection: Arcurve
- Women’s Advancement: ATCO
- Workplace Culture & Engagement: Nomodic
For every nomination received, Bowen Group contributed $1 to Indspire, a charity investing in the education of Indigenous people across Canada, and Bowen Group and Air Canada donated a grand total of $5,000 to Indspire.
