Renewal agreement: Effective May 1, 2018 to May 1, 2021. Signed on May 1, 2018.
Effective May 1, 2018: 3% or COLA, whichever is higher
Effective May 1, 2019: 3% or COLA, whichever is higher
Effective May 1, 2020: 3% or COLA, whichever is higher
Vacations with pay: 6% on each paycheque.
Overtime: Double time regular day-rate for days, after 196 days, for work for employees who work more than 196 days per year; time and one-half for employees who work more than 188 days per year.
Medical benefits: Employer will pay $369.10 (plus applicable taxes) per month for The Family Security Plan.
Pension: After probation, employer will contribute 8.5% of employee’s daily rate for each day of pay (excluding stevedoring pay), employee will contribute minimum 5%, to union’s pension plan. Participation in plan is mandatory.
Bereavement leave: 7 days for death in immediate family (spouse, son, daughter, mother, father). 4 days for death of brother, sister, parent-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, brother-in-law, sister-in-law.
Seniority – recall rights: 24 months for officer who is promoted or transferred to position within company but outside bargaining unit. Period equal to seniority or 2 years, whichever is less, for layoffs or for employee who is unable to perform normal duties due to illness or accident.
Probationary period: 90 sea days, excluding lay-up.
Discipline: Sunset clause is 24 months for records of disciplinary actions.
Severance: 4 days’ pay for each year of service, maximum 60 days basic pay, (without leave pay) after 6 years of service.
Uniforms/clothing: Employer will provide 3 pairs of ordinary coveralls per year; 1 pair of insulated coveralls or winter jacket and pants per year (replaced as required); floater suits, rain gear as required and while working on deck in inclement weather; 1 hard hat as required; 1 balaclava (replaced as required); 1 pair of work gloves per year (replaced as required); any other PPE that may be required. Employer will provide $500 per year for footwear, personal PPE, uniform, thermal underwear (previously $180 per year for footwear; $200 per year for uniforms/thermal underwear).
Mileage: $0.56 per kilometre; thereafter kilometric rate as set by federal government.

Editor’s notes: Medical fitness: Employer may cause employee to be medically examined at any time and employer will be responsible for all costs associated with medical test. Travel expenses: $40 (paid via ship’s cash) for meals, when not provided onboard vessel by cook. Rooms, when not provided aboard vessel, will be paid by employer. Seniority bonus: $1,000 for each year of service, maximum 12 years, at which point bonus will be paid at maximum rate for each year of service after 12 years. To be eligible, employee must have completed probation or 180 days over previous 12-month period, as of Jan. 1 of that year. Marine disasters: Maximum $6,000 for employees who suffer loss of personal effects through wreck or marine disaster. Legal defence fund: Employer will pay $2 per employee per day for legal defence insurance.
