Renewal agreement: Effective Jan. 1, 2020 to Dec. 31, 2021. Ratified on Jan. 23, 2020. Signed on Oct. 14, 2020.

Shift premium: $0.75 per hour for maintenance employees for any part of shift outside regular working hours (except when major portion of employee’s work day falls outside regular working day, in which case premiums will be paid for all hours of shift; will include all scheduled shifts on Saturdays or Sundays). $1.25 per hour to health care aides for any part of shift that falls between 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. $6 for any hours worked between 11:59 p.m. Friday to 12:01 a.m. on Monday (excluding maintenance, dietary evenings, dietary nights). $1 per hour for all hours while training for permanent employees designated by employer to train new employees.

Paid holidays: 11 days.

Vacations with pay: 4% on termination to start, 3 weeks after 1 year, 4 weeks after 5 years, 5 weeks after 15 years, 6 weeks after 20 years, 7 weeks after 30 years.

Overtime: Time and one-half for all time worked by full-time employee regular workday, regular workweek or on holiday. May be taken as lieu time but must be taken within 6 months after time it is earned except in extenuating circumstances. If lieu time not be used within 6 months or if extension was not granted by employer, it will be paid out.

Medical benefits: Employer pays 80% of premiums, employee pays 20% of premiums for Alberta Health Care, extended health care plan (including Audiologist). Employees will be given $300 per year as health spending account.

Dental: Employer pays 80% of premiums, employee pays 20% of premiums. 80% for basic; 50% for major, maximum $1,500 per year combined total. 50% of orthodontic coverage, maximum $1,500 1-time only per family member.

Vision: Employer pays 80% of premiums, employee pays 20% of premiums. $200 of coverage every 2 years.

Sick leave: 1 hour for each 14.5 hours worked, maximum 120 hours per year, total maximum 1,200 hours accumulated (credits will not accrue during any period of sick leave longer than 1 month). Employees will carry over into agreement all accrued sick leave to which they were entitled prior to signing agreement. Employee will be entitled to payment of 12.5% of accumulated leave upon retirement.

Life insurance: Employer pays 80% of premiums, employee pays 20% of premiums.

Pension: All eligible employees will participate in pension plan (Nursing Homes and Related Industries Pension Plan (NHRIPP)) or comparable pension plan introduced by employer. Employer contributes 5% into plan, employee contributes 3% into plan.

Bereavement leave: 5 days for death of parent, spouse, child, sibling, grandparent, grandchild. 2 additional days when burial occurs outside province. Leave without pay will be given for death of other close relatives. One-half day leave when required on regularly scheduled workday to attend funeral as pallbearer.

Seniority – recall rights: 1 year for layoffs.

Call-in pay: Minimum 2 hours at overtime rates (between hours of 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., employee is not required to remain at worksite for 2 hours).

Probationary period: 3 months.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 24 months for suspension or disciplinary action, including letters of reprimand or adverse reports.

Tool allowance: Employer will supply, replace as needed, all tools and equipment required by employees in performance of duties.

Editor’s notes: Payment for meals: Employer will supply meals for employees during half-hour paid meal period. Meals are income taxable consistent with Revenue Canada regulations. On call/standby: $35 per day for employee who is on call/standby.
