Wage adjustments:
Effective May 1, 2015: 2.4%
Effective May 1, 2016: CPI National average for previous year.
Effective May 1, 2017: CPI National average for previous year (no less than 0%, not more than 2%).
Paid holidays: 11 days.
Vacations with pay: 3 weeks up to 14 years, 4 weeks up to 24 years, 5 weeks for 25+ years of service. Part-time, casual 6% paid, or option to accrue time.
Overtime: One and one-half time for hours worked beyond 40 per week.
Dental: Costs covered by employer.
Sick leave: 1 hour per pay period up to 24 hours per year. 24 hours of sick leave bank per year.
STD: Costs covered by employees.
LTD: Costs covered by employees.
AD&D: Costs covered by employees.
Life insurance: Costs covered by employer.
Pension: After one year, employer matches full-time employee contribution up to 5% of regular wages. Part-time workers can join after 2 years, providing they earn 35% of maximum pensionable earnings under the Canada Pension Act.
Bereavement leave: 5 days for member of employee’s immediate family (spouse including common-law, children of the employee and/or spouse (including adopted, foster or ward children), parents (including spouse or common-law partner of parents), grandparents of the employee or spouse, brothers and sisters of employee or spouse, and other relatives permanently residing with the employee). Payment for up to 3 days of employee’s scheduled shifts.
Seniority – recall rights: 9 months.
Probationary period: 6 months.
Safety shoes: Full- and part-time $300 approved footwear. Casual $150 approved footwear.
Uniforms/clothing: Company-issued clothing provided. $125 for snow pants.
Sample rates of pay (current, after increase):
Customer service agent: $16.02 rising by the CPI national average each May 1 until 2017.
Customer service supervisor: $20.77 rising by the CPI national average each May 1 until 2017.
Editor’s notes: Northern living allowance: $200 for 120 hours worked each month or prorated for less than 120 hours. Humanity and education fund: 2 cents for each hour worked to the Steelworkers’ Humanity Fund and the Steelworkers’ Education Fund. Signing bonus: $300. Shift Bidding: Full-time employees can bid between 30 to 40 hours per week and shall not bid more than 40 hours per week. Overtime banking: Maximum 80 hours. Loyalty pay: 10 years $1 per hour; 15 years $2 per hour (retroactive to May 1, 2015, if employed as of March 2, 2016). Safety/health training: Effective Jan. 1, 2016, to April 30, 2018, employees on the OHS committee may take up to 2 days’ paid educational leave for safety and health training.
