Renewal agreement: Effective April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2024. Signed on April 1, 2019.

Shift premium: $42-per-day hardship pay for foreign correspondent while on assignment in war risk zone. 15% for work performed between midnight and 7 a.m. (minimum $7 payment). $1,200 per year for employees of CBC North, who ordinarily work one-half or more of week in position that requires ongoing use of English and one or more Indigenous language, maximum 40 employees.

Paid holidays: 11 days.

Vacations with pay: 4 weeks to start, 5 weeks after 18 years, 6 weeks after 25 years for staff foreign correspondents (leave cannot be carried over from 1 year to next unless managerial authorization has been given and leave not used or authorized to carry over will be paid out each year); staff foreign correspondents will also be given maximum 10 days of leave in quarter or quarters during which they are not taking annual leave. 1.25 days per month, maximum 15 days, to start, 4 weeks after 8 years, 5 weeks after 18 years, 6 weeks after 25 years.

Overtime: Time and one-half for work after 7.75 hours per day or 38.75 hours per week. Time and one-half for work on scheduled day off; double time on second scheduled day off. Time may be taken off in lieu but unused time will be paid out in September of each year.

Meal allowance: Employee will be given meal allowance (equal to lunch per diem) when shift extends to 10 hours and every 4 hours thereafter.

Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of prevailing hospital/medical premiums for employees on foreign assignments.

Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of $25,000 or 2 times basic annual salary (whichever is greater).

Bereavement leave: 5 days for death of spouse, common-law spouse, same-sex partner, son, daughter (including stepchildren). 3 days for death of mother, father (including stepparents), spouse or common-law spouse of mother or father, brother, sister (including stepsiblings), mother-in-law, father-in-law, spouse or common-law spouse of mother-in-law or father-in-law, father or mother of employee’s common-law spouse or same-sex partner, grandparents, grandchildren, dependant, other relative residing in same residence. Employee may receive additional time off for travel.

Seniority – recall rights: 15 months after layoffs.

Call-in pay: Paid for actual time worked, at time and one-half, minimum of 3 hours (calculated from time of call).

Probationary period: 9 months (may be extended maximum 3 months). Probationary period may be extended by period equivalent to any absence with or without pay.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 2 years for all documents referring to discipline; 24 months for all documentation pertaining to improvement plans.

Severance: 1 week’s salary for each 4 months of service; 1 week’s salary for each 4 months of service when employee who has been recalled and is then laid off again (calculated from date of most recent recall).

Mileage: $0.16 per kilometre per round trip (maximum 40 kilometres) for transmitter technicians or other employees using own automobiles to travel to and from transmitter maintenance base, plus special winter allowance, maximum $20 per month, maximum 6 months per year. Monthly vehicle allowance: $475 to cover all costs of operating personal vehicle on employee business for employee who works in sales.

Editor’s notes: Technical freelancers: Paid minimum daily rate of $280 and union dues will be deducted and remitted. Training time: Where training occurs on employee’s scheduled day off, employee will be paid at time and one-half for all hours of training, minimum credit of 4 hours. Travel to and from work: Taxis will be provided for employees who are required to travel at hours when other public transportation is not available (will only be paid for portion of employee’s travel where public transportation is not available) and will be reimbursed, maximum $20 per shift and maximum may be exceeded, where authorized. Parking: $7 per shift for parking for employees working in Toronto or Vancouver who are required to travel using own vehicle to and from work between 1:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. when public transportation is not available. Relocation: When employee relocates, employee will be reimbursed for house-hunting trip, moving of household effects, transportation and travel accommodation, maximum per family of $11,000. Employee will also receive $1,000 for incidentals.
