Cineplex workers in Vaughan, Ont., sign new agreement

United Food and Commercial Workers union (UFCW) Canada, Local 1006A members working at Cineplex in Vaughan, Ont., ratified a new union contract on June 28.

The three-year collective agreement covers 110 workers provides better scheduling and comes with a signing bonus, said the union.

The new deal includes new language surrounding time off for students who have exams, other provisions that allow employees more flexibility with schedules, wording to allow members longer time to decide schedules, a signing bonus for all members and a guarantee that pay rates stay above the minimum wage, said UFCW.

“We are proud to help workers in a diverse array of sectors achieve fairness at the bargaining table,” said Wayne Hanley, UFCW Local 1006A president.

UFCW Canada Local 1006A represents 36,000 employees in a range of sectors across Ontario, including grocery retail, food processing, hospitality, laundry, warehousing, transportation and eye-care industries.
