Red Deer, Alta. (142 dispatchers, supervisors, operators, coordinators) and the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), Local 1374

Renewal agreement: Effective Jan. 1, 2018, to Dec. 31, 2020. Ratified on Sept. 4, 2018. Signed on Jan. 1, 2018. 
Shift premium: $1.20 per hour (previously $1.10 per hour) for all work after 6 p.m. and before 6 a.m. and on all hours worked on Saturdays. 1.25 times applicable rate for all work on Sundays. $0.45 per hour for hours in excess of 9 hours for operators with spread-time after 9 hours. 106% of applicable hourly rate for employees assessing and training other employees.
Paid holidays: 11 days. In lieu of one-half day leave for either Christmas Eve or New Year’s Eve, employees will receive 4 hours of holiday pay. 
Vacations with pay: 3 weeks after 1 year, 4 weeks after 9 years, 5 weeks after 16 years, 6 weeks after 25 years. 
Overtime: Double time for all work hours per day or 40 hours per week. Double time for all work on regular day off. May be banked, maximum 40 hours. 
Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums for Blue Cross Supplementary Medical Plan.
Dental: Employer pays 100% of premiums.
Sick leave: 1 day per month, after 3 months of service, maximum 80 days accumulated.
Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of $25,000. Employee pays 100% of premiums for coverage greater than $25,000.
Bereavement leave: 3 days for death in immediate family (father, mother, legal guardian, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother, sister, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, legally-recognized spouse, legally-recognized children, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, grandparents). Additional 2 days for travel, if needed. Maximum 8 hours per 12-month period to attend funeral.
Seniority – recall rights: 12 months. 
Call-in pay: Minimum of 3 hours’ pay when employee performs work that begins before 9 a.m. (with less than 3 hours’ notice).
Probationary period: 6 months. 
Discipline: Sunset clause is 2 years.
Safety shoes: $125, twice per year, for CSA-approved footwear. $125 per year for pre-approved, slip-resistant footwear for action bus operators.
Uniforms/clothing: Employer will provide appropriate winter gear for service bay supervisor, service person, transit facilities and infrastructure coordinators. $25 per year for gloves for action bus operators.
Sample rates of hourly pay (current, after 3% increase): 
Step 1
Senior transit dispatcher: $36.36 (120% bus operator) rising 2 steps to $37.46
Transit dispatcher: $34.85 (115% bus operator) rising 2 steps to $35.90
Acting operations supervisor: $34.85 (115% bus operator) rising 2 steps to $35.90
Bus operator: $27.27 (90% probationary rate) rising 2 steps to $28.09
Action bus dispatcher: $33.33 (110% action bus operator) rising 2 steps to $34.34
Action bus operator: $27.27 (90% probationary rate) rising 2 steps to $28.09
Transit facilities and infrastructure coordinator: $28.28 (90% probationary rate for 6 months) rising 2 steps to $29.13
Transit service bay supervisor: $30.11 (115% transit service person) rising 2 steps to $31.02
Transit service person: $23.57 (90% probationary rate) rising 2 steps to $24.28
Editor’s notes: Retirement allowance: After 15 years of service, 1 day of vacation for each year of service upon retirement. Transportation: Each employee will be issued transit pass/ID picture card for free transportation over employer’s system to all employees of Red Deer Transit System and retired transit department employees on city pension. Driver’s license medical: Maximum $125 towards employee’s operating license medical. Standby pay: $2 per hour when supervisory staff are required to remain on standby (carrying cellphone, ready to be called in)
