Renewal agreement: Effective Jan. 1, 2020 to Dec. 31, 2023. Signed on Nov. 30, 2020.

Wage adjustments:

Effective Jan. 1, 2020: 2%

Effective Jan. 1, 2021: 2.25%

Effective Jan. 1, 2022: 2.5%

Effective Jan. 1, 2023: 2.5%

Shift premium: $1.25 per hour (previously $1.10 per hour) for hours of regular shift worked between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. $125 per month for employees who perform first-aid duties and who hold valid WorkSafeBC occupational health and safety first aid certificate.

Paid holidays: 12 days.

Vacations with pay: 1/12 of 15 working days for each month to start, 15 days after 1 year, 20 days after 15 years, 30 days after 23 years. All vacation allowance earned during year must be taken prior to Dec. 31 of following year. Each employee upon commencing 11th, 16th, 21st, 26th, 31st, 36th, 41st or 46th year of service, will become entitled to 5 additional days of supplementary vacation.

Overtime: Time and one-half for first 2 hours of overtime worked immediately preceding or immediately following employee’s regular shift on regular working day; double time after 2 hours of overtime. Double time for all overtime worked at any other times. May be taken as compensating time in lieu. All time off during year that has not been granted to employee by March 31 of following year will be paid in cash.

Meal allowance: Paid meal break of 1 half-hour (paid at double time) after 2 continuous hours of overtime immediately preceding or immediately following employee’s regular shift.

Medical benefits: Employer pays 80% of premiums, employees pays 20% of premiums for Medical Services Plan (MSP) coverage. Employer pays 90% of premiums, employees pays 10% of premiums for Extended Health Care coverage.

Vision: $600 every 2 years or $600 per continuous 12-month period if there is change in prescription of at least 0.25 diopter. Eye exams (maximum $100 every 2 years). Laser eye surgery: $1,500 (previously $750) per person lifetime maximum.

Paramedical: $1,000 per year for clinical psychologist. $500 per year for registered dietician. $1,500 per year maximum for any 1 (or combination of practitioners) for physiotherapist/chiropractor/registered massage.

Sick leave: 1 2/3 days per month, cumulative to maximum 261 days, retroactive to first month of employment after 6 months of service.

Pension: All employees will be covered by Municipal Pension Plan.

Bereavement leave: 3 days for death of employee’s marital or common-law spouse, child, ward, brother, sister, parent, parent-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, guardian, any other relative living in employee’s household.

Seniority – recall rights: 9 months for employee who is on personal leave of absence (excluding maternity leave, sick leave, education leave, union leave).

Call-in pay: Double time for time worked plus 1 hour’s allowance for traveling to and from home, minimum 3 hours’ pay at double time (minimum includes 1 hour for traveling time). If 2 separate callouts are completed within 3-hour period, minimum payment will be 4 hours at double time (minimum includes 2 hours for traveling time).

Probationary period: 6 months of continuous service.

Uniforms/clothing: Employer will supply 1 set of coveralls, when requested, for employees required to engage in out-of-office duties where exposure to surroundings may be detrimental to personal clothing or where personal visibility is required for safety purposes. Each lifeguard will be provided with 2 Richmond aquatic shirts and shorts.

Editor’s notes: Standby: 1 hour’s pay for each 8 hours standing by, in addition to call-in pay. 1 hour’s pay for each period of 6 hours standing by for all standby on public holidays, weekends. Hearing aids and repairs: $700 every 5 years. Gratuity pay: Employee will be credited with gratuity pay of 1 working day per quarter of year from Jan. 1 to March 31; April 1 to June 30; July 1 to Sept. 30; Oct. 1 to Dec. 31. Employee will be entitled to additional gratuity credit equivalent to 1 day per year if employee is not absent on sick leave at all during year (maximum 5 working days per year).
