Collective agreement: University of Guelph

Renewal agreement: May 1, 2024 to April 30, 2027. 

Wage adjustments: 

2024: 3.75% 
2025: 3.5% 
2026: 3% 

Shift premium: $0.80 per hour for all hours worked where at least 4 hours fall between 4 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. 5% of basic rate for employee requested by manager to perform regular duties of a position of greater responsibility due to unanticipated absence. 

Paid holidays: 13 days including 1 floater day. Additional paid days off to coincide with university’s holiday closure period. 

Vacations with pay: 10 days after 1 year, 15 days after 2 years, 16 days after 5 years, 17 days after 6 years, 18 days after 7 years, 20 days after 8 years, 21 days after 12 years, 22 days after 14 years, 24 days after 16 years, 25 days after 17 years, 26 days after 23 years, 30 days after 28 years. 

Overtime: Time-and-a-half for hours worked in excess of standard work day (7.5 hours) or work week averaged over 2 weeks (75 hours), minimum 3 hours. 

Meal allowance: Employees are entitled to beverages and meals during shifts worked. All employees working greater than 5 hours in a day shall be assessed a $1 contribution by payroll deduction. $3 charge as a taxable benefit for each shift greater than 5 hours ($1 for shift between 3 and 5 hours) for beverages consumed during shift or break. 

Medical Benefits: Employer pay 66 2/3% of benefit cost for regular full-time employees. Regular and limited full-time employees receive $600 in flexible spending credits for health care spending account and/or taxable wellness spending account. 

Dental: Employer covers 80% of costs of benefits for regular full-time employees. 

Long-term disability: Employer pay 66 2/3% of cost of benefits for regular full-time employees and limited full-time employees. 

Life insurance: Employer pays 66 2/3% of cost of Group Life Insurance Plan for regular full-time employees. 

Sick leave: 3 days for full-time employees with less than 3 months’ service. After 3 months, full regular pay until eligibility for long-term salary continuation. Medical evidence required for absences longer than 5 days. For 3rd period of absence, paid sick leave begins after 1 day. For 4th and subsequent periods of absence, paid sick leave begins after 2 full days. Limited full-time employees receive 3 days to start, 10 days after completion of probationary period. 
 
Seniority – recall rights: 24 months. 

Probationary period: 3 months of continuous employment. May be extended another 3 months with written notice. 

Discipline: Sunset clause is 2 years. 

Safety shoes: $190 per year.

Third cook, porter, general cafeteria helper: $19.95-$25.02 (2024) rising in 2 steps to $21.27-$26.68 (2026). 
Head kitchen porter: $21.38-26.81 (2024) rising in 2 steps to $22.79-$28.58 (2026). 
Commissary handler: $22.77-$28.51 (2024) rising in 2 steps to $24.28-$30.40 (2026). 
Second cook: $23.56-$29.51 (2024) rising in 2 steps to $25.11-$31.46 (2026). 
Head commissary handler: $23.46-$29.32 (2024) rising in 2 steps to $25.01-$31.26 (2026). 
First cook, head cafeteria helper: $25.48 -$31.93 (2024) rising in 2 steps to $27.16-$34.04 (2026).
