Provincewide, Ontario (5,000 residents) and the Professional Association of Residents of Ontario (PARO)

Renewal agreement: Effective July 1, 2017, to June 30, 2020. Signed on April 27, 2017. 
Shift premium: Chief resident bonus (resident who has responsibility for 6 or more assistant residents): $4,119.27 per year (previously $4,062.40 per year). Senior resident bonus (resident who is most senior in approved specialty/subspecialty training program within clinical department or in department, with no chief resident, who supervises clinical clerks, or residents, or has responsibilities for administrative or educational duties: $2,060.15 per year (previously $2,031.71 per year). Call stipends: For in-hospital call, home call and qualifying shifts, employee will receive $116 for residents scheduled for in-hospital call; $58 for residents scheduled for home call or for qualifying shifts (including emergency department and other night shifts worked).
Paid holidays: 10 days, plus 1 floating holiday. All employees will be entitled to minimum 5 consecutive days off during 12-day period that encompasses Christmas Day, New Year’s Day and 2 full weekends. 
Vacations with pay: 4 weeks per year. 
Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums for OHIP coverage. Employer pays 100% of premiums for extended health care coverage similar to Liberty Health Plan Extended Health Care plan.
Dental: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of 85% of all eligible expenses at current ODA fee schedule.
Vision: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of $300 every 24 months (previously $250 every 24 months).
Paramedical: Coverage of $500 for each eligible paramedical practitioner per covered person.
Sick leave: 6 months or until end of appointment, whichever comes first, salary continuance due to illness or injury. 
Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of 2 times annual earnings.
Uniforms/clothing: Uniforms, where required, will be provided, laundered at employer’s expense. Operating room greens will be made accessible to all employees.

PGY1: $57,967.29 rising 2 steps to $60,190.98
PGY2: $64,088.23 rising 2 steps to $66,090.36
PGY3: $69,032.97 rising 2 steps to $70,979.42
PGY4: $74,205.21 rising 2 steps to $76,900.64
PGY5: $79,523.73 rising 2 steps to $81,765.98
PGY6: $84,042.16 rising 2 steps to $86,411.81
PGY7: $87,268.84 rising 2 steps to $89,729.48
PGY8: $92,075.63 rising 2 steps to $94,671.79
PGY9: $96,882.43 rising 2 steps to $99,614.12
Editor’s notes: Medical liability: Employees are required to have CMPA (Canadian Medical Protective Association) coverage, or other equivalent medical liability insurance, as determined by employees. Travel time: Employer will pay taxi charges, maximum $70 per month, when residents are required to travel between sites or to return to site. Employee will be reimbursed costs of parking.
