On-air reporters, anchors and hosts at all-news television station CP24 joined their unionized co-workers at the station on May 28 to become members of Unifor.

“In these challenging times for the media sector, journalists and media workers are seeing the value in being part of a union that fights for the future of the industry,” said Howard Law, Unifor media director.

The 25 workers will be members of Local 723-M after their bargaining unit was certified last week by the Canada Industrial Relations Board, said Unifor.

Local 723-M — which already represented the station’s behind-the-camera workers such as camera operators, editors, technicians, and make-up artists — played an active role in bringing the group into Unifor, said the union.
