Walkout lasted nearly three years: Unifor
Employees working at Delastek in Grand-Mère, Que., ended a strike recently which began on April 1, 2015, and lasted nearly three years.
“These workers stood up against a powerful company and they persevered,” said Renaud Gagné, Quebec director for Unifor, Local 1209. “We are inspired by their strength during difficult times.”
The primary dispute was over a division of work between production — covered by the collective agreement — and research and development, which is not part of the bargaining unit. Workers in research and development performed production work, which had the effect of extending the strike, said the union.
