District of Kitimat, B.C., workers ratify new collective agreement

120 employees to receive annual wage increases over three years

Strong wage gains and benefits enhancements characterize the three-year contract signed by Kitimat, B.C., municipal workers represented by Unifor, Local 2300 on Feb. 8.

“The bargaining committee did outstanding work on behalf of municipal government workers in Kitimat,” said Jerry Dias, Unifor national president. “These workers continue to make Kitimat’s public services great, and they have earned a fair contract.”

The new contract for the 120 municipal workers takes effect retroactively on Jan. 1. It includes wage increases of three per cent, 2.5 per cent and 2.5 per cent annually over the term of the contract, said the union.

A variety of benefits will also be enhanced, including long-term disability coverage, life insurance coverage and prescription drug coverage, said Unifor.
