First deal reached between Unifor, Paramont Services in Montreal

Wage increases, group life insurance part of collective agreement: Union

Unifor Local 62 workers signed their first labour agreement on Dec. 20 with Les Services Paramont, a housekeeping subcontractor for the Montreal Airport Marriott.

This first contract includes improvements for the newly unionized group, such as an 8.75 per cent wage increase over the life of the contract, the implementation of a group insurance plan, union leave paid by the employer and a new contribution to the paid education leave program and the social justice fund, according to the union.

The collective agreement runs from Jan. 1, 2018, to Nov. 30, 2020 and also introduces a new women’s advocate, a policy for mutual respect in the workplace and guaranteed hours of work, said Unifor.

"Hotel workers deserve good jobs and union protection, and we are happy that they have made these gains," said François Beaudoin, Unifor national representative.

The group represents almost 50 workers who provide room cleaning services at the Marriott Hotel located near Montreal’s Pierre-Elliot-Trudeau Airport.
