Matches deals reached with Ford, Chrysler
Workers at General Motors, who are members of the Canadian Auto Workers union (CAW), have voted 73 per cent in favour of a deal reached last week between the two sides.
About 4,000 GM workers voted on Sept. 26 and 27 on a contract that includes a $3,000 productivity bonus and lump-sum cost-of-living payments of $2,000 in each of 2013, 2014 and 2015, according to a CAW press release.
The GM contract matches those reached at Ford and Chrysler, cutting wages for new hires and freezing pay for current employees.
Workers at Ford accepted their contract with the CAW on the weekend and Chrysler workers are set to vote on theirs this weekend.
The CAW represents more than 8,000 GM workers at facilities in Oshawa, St. Catharines, and Woodstock, Ont.
