Provincewide, Nova Scotia (9,300 teachers, principals, vice-principals, department heads, system consultants) and the Nova Scotia Teachers Union (NSTU)

Renewal agreement: Effective Aug. 1, 2015, to July 31, 2019. Signed on Feb. 21, 2017.
Paid holidays: 7 days. 
Vacations with pay: Minimum 5 days (maximum 10 days) for Christmas leave, plus 5 days for spring leave. 
Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums for NSTU Total Care Policy.
Dental: Employer pays 65% of premiums, employee pays 35% of premiums. Employer will contribute $3,000 per month for prosthodontic services.
Vision: $400 reimbursement for eyeglasses damaged during teacher’s duties. 
LTD: Employer pays 50% of premiums, employee pays 50% of premiums for NSTU Long Term Disability Insurance. 
AD&D: Employer pays 100% of premiums for $50,000 coverage.
Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of premiums for $50,000 coverage.
Probationary period: 2 years. 
Discipline: Sunset clause is 4 years.
Severance: After 5 years of service: 2% of annual salary multiplied by number of years of service, maximum 40%. 
Mileage: Greater of $0.34 per kilometre or current provincial government rate for kilometres in excess of round-trip distance between teacher’s residence and school or site where teacher teaches greatest percentage of time for teachers who must travel in performance of duty.

Schools with 6 to 15 teachers: $5,956 plus $717 for each teacher in excess of 5 rising 5 steps to $6,137 plus $739 for each teacher in excess of 5
Schools with 16 to 30 teachers: $13,129 plus $541 for each teacher in excess of 15 rising 5 steps to $13,526 plus $557 for each teacher in excess of 15
Schools with 31 to 45 teachers: $21,246 plus $109 for each teacher in excess of 30 rising 5 steps to $21,889 plus $113 for each teacher in excess of 30
Schools with 46+ teachers: $22,863 plus $82 for each teacher in excess of 45 rising 5 steps to $24,555 plus $84 for each teacher in excess of 45
Department head or system consultant: $563 for each full-time teacher in department including department-head, maximum $5,640 rising 5 steps to $581 for each full-time teacher in the department including department-head maximum $5,810
Vice-principal: 50% of rate for principal of school based upon number of teachers in geographic area of responsibility
Editor’s notes: Program fund: Employer will provide $200,000 per year for Program Development Assistance Fund. Professional development fund: Employer will provide to each school board funds as follows: $751,854 to Annapolis Valley Regional School Board; $877,122 to Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board; $1,063,163 to Chignecto-Central Regional School Board; $225,526 to Conseil scolaire acadien provincial; $2,004,841 to Halifax Regional School Board; $482,468 to South Shore Regional School Board; $504,194 to Strait Regional School Board; $457,375 Tri-County Regional School Board.
