Renewal agreement: Effective April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2022. Ratified on May 27, 2020. Signed on July 13, 2020.

Wage adjustments:

Effective April 1, 2019: 0%

Effective April 1, 2020: 0%

Effective April 1, 2021: 1%

Shift premium: When employee on sleep-function shift reports dealing with client need or safety concern, such as responding to smoke alarm, and remains awake because client is expected to return, employee will be paid applicable hourly rate for residence counsellor. $1.50 per hour when employee works in absence of regular supervisor or manager and is designated to be responsible for performance of additional supervisory duties which would otherwise be performed by regular supervisor or manager.

Paid holidays: 11 days.

Vacations with pay: 1.25 days vacation with pay for each month worked to start, 15 days or 120 hours after 1 year, 20 days or 160 hours after 4 years, 25 days or 200 hours after 13 years. 5 additional days off on each of employment anniversaries of 20, 25, 30 years (time must be used within following 5-year period). Employee leaving service of employer before they have exhausted vacation credits to which they are entitled, will receive payment of wages in lieu of earned vacation.

Overtime: Time and one-half for all work after 40 hours per week. Time and one-half for all work on scheduled day off. Overtime during unscheduled sleep function shifts will be paid at overtime rate based on sleep-shift hourly wage scale and be paid out by following pay period. Employee may request time off in lieu within 12 months of pay period in which overtime was worked, maximum 40 hours at any 1 time in bank. Time off not taken will be paid out in first pay period of March 1 every year. Overtime may be converted to vacation-leave credits.

Medical benefits: Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan or equivalent. Health Benefit Trust of Alberta. $900 per each full-time employee for health spending account. Coverage begins after 3 months of service.

Dental: Coverage of 80% reimbursement of basic expenses; 50% of extensive eligible dental expenses; $3,000 maximum per policy year. 50% for orthodontic, $3,000) lifetime maximum.

Sick leave: 1 day for each full month of employment (on basis of 8 hours for each work day) maximum credit of 45 days.

LTD: Employer pays 50% of premiums, employee pays 50% of premiums (maximum $100 per month) for coverage of 66 2/3% of basic monthly earnings maximum, following 24-week elimination period.

AD&D: Coverage of 1 times annual earnings.

Life insurance: Coverage of 1 times annual earnings.

Pension: Employer will contribute 3% of paid hourly wages matched to employee contribution of 3% into RRSP. Employer may contribute additional 1%, to be matched by employee, maximum employer contribution of 4%.

Bereavement leave: 5 days for death in immediate family (spouse (including common-law spouse), child, parent, guardian, brother, sister, grandparent, grandchild, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, mother-in-law, father-in-law, step parents, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, stepchildren, foster-parents). 1 day mourner leave for death of significant other person. Additional 2 days for travel in excess of 650 kilometres return.

Seniority – recall rights: 1 year for layoffs.

Probationary period: 522 hours worked excluding sleep-shift function hours.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 36 months for employee who has been subject to disciplinary action.

Mileage: Reimbursed at highest Canada Revenue Agency non-taxable amount per kilometre from employee’s residence to workplace and return for employee who is called back to workplace for reasonable, necessary and substantiated transportation expenses. Employees who are required by employer to use personal vehicles will receive travel time and mileage from home or normally assigned office, whichever is shortest route to first client’s home. Mileage and travel time will also be paid from last client’s home to employee’s home or base office (whichever is shortest route). Travel time will be paid at employee’s applicable rate of pay.

Step 1: $17.52 rising 2 steps to $17.70

Step 2: $18.06 rising 2 steps to $18.24

Residence counsellor 2/outreach counsellor

Step 1: $20.97 rising 2 steps to $21.18

Step 2: $21.64 rising 2 steps to $21.86

Step 3: $22.30 rising 2 steps to $22.52

Step 4: $22.99 rising 2 steps to $23.22

Sleep shift: $15

Editor’s notes: Special conditions for camp: Employee will be paid basic rate of pay for 8 hours for each day in attendance at camp. Employees who attend camp will be further compensated with 4 paid hours off for every day in attendance. Parking: Charges incurred while on employer business will be reimbursed upon submission of receipts. Medical certificates: When employee must pay fee for medical certificates, fee will be reimbursed by employer, maximum $40. Personal leave: Full-time employees will be entitled to 3 personal leave days each year. Leave not used by March 1 of each year will not be carried over or paid out upon termination of employment. Professional-development days: Each full-time employee will be granted at least 3 professional-development days without pay per year.
