Provincewide, British Columbia (65 masters, mates, engineers, marine employees) and the Canadian Merchant Service Guild (CMSG)

Renewal agreement: Effective Oct. 1, 2017, to Sept. 24, 2022. Signed on April 17, 2017.
Wage adjustments: 
Effective Oct. 1, 2017: 3%
Effective Sept. 25, 2018: 2.5% 
Effective Sept. 25, 2019: 2.5%
Effective Sept. 25, 2020: 2.5%
Effective Sept. 25, 2021: 2%
Shift premium: Cook/deckhands: $16.34 per day (previously $15.84 per day) worked on Island Tugger, Island Monarch and any similar sized vessel; $9.33 per day (previously $9.05 per day) worked on all other smaller vessels; $5.59 for each guest meal served (previously $5.43). Effective Sept. 25, 2018: 2.5% increase to rates. Effective Sept. 25, 2019: 2.5% increase to rates. Effective Sept. 25, 2020: 2.5% increase to rates. Effective Sept. 25, 2021: 2% increase to rates.
Paid holidays: 12 days. 
Vacations with pay: 14 days or 4% after 1 year, 21 days or 6% after 2 years, 28 days or 8% after 7 years, 35 days or 10% after 15 years, 42 days or 12% after 22 years. Additional 2% after 30 years. 
Overtime: Double time for work in excess of regular hours. 
Medical benefits: Company will pay to union $920 per month per employee in lieu of providing health-benefit plan including life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment, weekly indemnity, extended health care, long-term disability, dental coverage. Employer will pay 100% of premium for BC Medical Services Plan.
Pension: Employer contributes 9% per employee, employee contributes 9% into Canadian Merchant Service Guild Western Branch Pension Plan.
Bereavement leave: 4 days for death of spouse, common-law partner, father, mother, spouse or common-law partner of father or mother, children, children of employee’s spouse or common-law partner, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, grandfather, grandmother, father and mother of spouse or common-law partner, spouse or common-law partner of father or mother, any relative with whom employee resides.
Seniority – recall rights: 18 months. 
Discipline: Sunset clause is 3 years.
Severance: 1 week’s pay per year of service. 
Safety shoes: $600 every 2 years for safety boots (previously $250).
Uniforms/clothing: If employee is required to wear uniform, employer will supply, maintain, clean uniform. Employer will reimburse employees $300 for floater coat (or equivalent); $200 for high-visibility rain gear (previously $150); $150 for hearing protection (previously $125).
Mileage: $0.55 per kilometre for use of personal vehicle to move from one location to another.

Editor’s notes: Legal defence: Employer will pay $31 per month per employee for legal defence coverage. Marine disaster: Any employee who suffers loss of personal effects, clothing, navigational equipment, tools through wreck or marine disaster, or while in transit to or from home dock, will be paid 1 month’s basic pay. Passports: Employer will pay for all costs associated for renewing passport, including all fees incurred for expediting renewal, pictures, processing fees. Prescription safety glasses: $300 reimbursement. Fitness: Employer will provide allowance of 50%, maximum $20 per month, for fitness membership.
