Renewal agreement: Effective May 9, 2019 to May 6, 2022. Signed on May 9, 2019. (FIRST AGREEMENT)

Wage adjustments:

Effective May 6, 2020: $0.25 per hour

Effective May 6, 2021: $0.25 per hour

Wage adjustments (highway drivers only:

Effective May 9, 2020: 1%

Effective May 9, 2021: 1%

Shift premium: $19 per hour, after first hour, for wait time once employee has reported to dispatch. $19 per hour from time of breakdown as breakdown pay.

Paid holidays: 9 days.  

Vacations with pay: 4% to start, 2 weeks or 4% after 1 year, 3 weeks or 6% after 5 years, 4 weeks or 8% after 10 years. All unused vacation pay will be paid out on first pay period in December.

Overtime: Time and one-half for work after 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week for office and maintenance employees. Time and one-half for work after 60 hours per week for non-city drivers (50 hours if general holiday falls during week). Time and one-half for work after 9 hours per day and 45 hours per week for city drivers (36 hours per week if general holiday falls during week).

Medical benefits: Employer will pay 100% of premiums.

Dental: Employer will pay 100% of premiums.

Sick leave: 3 days per year.

Pension: RSP program.

Bereavement leave: 5 days (3 days paid) for death of spouse, child, stepchild. 3 days for death of mother, father, sister, brother, father-in-law, mother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, stepparent or stepparent of current spouse, stepsister, stepbrother, grandparent, grandchildren.

Seniority – recall rights: 36 months or time equal to accumulated seniority at date of layoff, whichever is less, minimum 12 months, after layoff.

Probationary period: 90 calendar days in which employer rendered services within 12 months. Employer may extend period by additional 30 calendar days.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 12 months for written disciplinary actions, unless discipline is imposed for similar offence within 12 months, in which case, both would remain on file for 12 months from second incident.

Safety shoes: $100 per year, inclusive of taxes, every 12 months for safety footwear.

Uniforms/clothing: Employer will provide all maintenance employees with leather-palmed work gloves (to be replaced when worn out), hearing protection, and 1 winter jacket every 2 years. Employer will provide all drivers with leather-palmed work gloves (to be replaced when worn out).

Tool allowance: $200 reimbursement per year for mechanics and apprentices for tools, specific to their jobs (employer will repair air tools when broken).

Sample rates of hourly pay (current):

Dispatchers: $24.25

Mechanics: $34.50

Semi-skilled mechanic: $25.50

General labourer: $18.50

Apprentices: $20.50

Sample rates of per-day pay (current):

DZ driver: $224

Sample rates of per-mile pay (current):

Highway drivers: $0.44 (plus $0.03 per mile fuel bonus)

Signing bonus  upon ratification: $500

Editor’s notes: Paid education leave: Employer will pay $1,000 on May 9, 2020 and $1,000 on May 9, 2021 into special fund for paid education leave (leave will be for upgrading employee skills in all aspects of trade union functions). Prescription safety glasses: If employee requires prescription safety glasses, employer will furnish selected safety glasses for employee to choose from at preferred vendor, once every 2 years, maximum $200.
