Montreal Swissport workers join IAM

160 cabin groomers now part of Local Lodge 1751

Swissport workers at Montreal’s Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport joined the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) on May 3.

“We organized 250 Swissport ground handlers, ground mechanics, storekeepers, operations officers, and communications coordinator in March,” said Michel Richer, IAM grand lodge representative. “This group wanted the same benefits as their co-workers, that being better working conditions, respect in the workplace and someone who had their back when needed.”

The newest members of IAM Local Lodge 1751 consist of 160 cabin groomers, responsible for cleaning the interior of aircraft between flights.

The IAM is the largest union in Canada’s air transport sector.
