Renewal agreement: Effective July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2022. Signed on Dec. 3, 2019.
Wage adjustments:
Effective July 1, 2019: $0.53 per hour
Effective July 1, 2020: $0.54 per hour
Effective July 1, 2021: $0.54 per hour
Shift premium: Employees will paid at overtime rates for all hours worked if employee is not given 24 hours’ notice of change of shift. $0.21 per hour (plus $0.09 per hour for each custodian under charge) for head custodian. 10% for lead-hand. $0.35 per hour for afternoon shift; $0.50 per hour for night shift. $0.50 cents per hour for all spray painting done.
Paid holidays: 12 days for 12-month employees; 10 days for 10-month employees (regular 10-month employees who work few days during July or August will be paid premium of 4% in addition to regular hourly wage to compensate for Canada Day and B.C. Day).
Vacations with pay: Maximum 15 days to start, 20 days after 7 years, 25 days after 15 years, 30 days after 23 years for 12-month employees. Maximum 12.69 days to start, 16.92 days after 7 years, 21.15 days after 15 years, 25.38 days after 23 years for 10-month employees.
Overtime: Time and one-half for first 2 hours of overtime; double time thereafter. Time and one-half for first 4 hours of overtime on consecutive days of rest; double time thereafter. Time may be banked, maximum 14 regular shifts. Days not taken by June 20 will, at discretion of the employee, be paid out.
Meal allowance: Employees will be provided with 1 meal or when meal facilities are not available, payment for breakfast, lunch or supper as established by employer for employees who work more than 1.5 consecutive hours beyond regular shift hours in 1 day.
Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums, after 3 months of service. Employer pays 75% of premiums, employee pays 25% of premiums for provincial extended health benefits plan (includes vision care, hearing aids).
Dental: Employer pays 75% of premiums, employee pays 25% of premiums.
Sick leave: 1.5 days for each month worked. Time may be accrued, maximum 180 working shifts. Employee will receive 40% of accumulated credit when retiring, retiring with disability, death, as part of severance package (after 5 years of seniority).
Life insurance: Employer pays 75% of premiums, employee pays 25% of premiums for coverage of 2.35 times annual basic earnings, maximum $200,000.
Pension: All eligible employees will participate in Municipal Pension Plan of British Columbia. Employer will deduct contributions, through payroll deductions, for those employees who participate in group RRSP.
Bereavement leave: 3 days for death in immediate family (spouse, child, parent, brother, sister, parent-in-law, grandparents, grandchildren, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, stepchild, stepparent, foster child, foster-parent). Additional 2 days will be given if travel greater than 400-kilometre radius of district is required.
Seniority – recall rights: 24 months after layoffs. 60 shifts for employees transferred to position outside bargaining unit.
Call-in pay: Minimum 4 hours of work at base rate or pay for number of hours actually worked at appropriate overtime rate, whichever is greater (employee is entitled to be paid only 1 call-in per 4-hour period).
Probationary period: 65 of employee’s working shifts or 6 calendar months, whichever comes sooner, from date of commencing work in regular position.
Discipline: Sunset clause is 18 months.
Severance: 1 week’s pay for every year of service (employee will also receive 40% of unused accumulated sick leave as part of package following 12-month lay-off period, after 5 years of service).
Safety shoes: $200 every 2 years for employee required by WorkSafe BC to wear CSA-approved safety-toed boots.
Uniforms/clothing: All bus drivers, maintenance employees, upon becoming regular employees, will be provided with coveralls. Where required, clerical employees will be provided with smocks or other protective clothing. Coveralls, wherever needed, will be made available in all areas.
Tool allowance: All tools required by individuals will be supplied by employer for use on job only.
