Provincewide, Newfoundland and Labrador (79 fishery guardians) and the United Steel, Paper and Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial and Service Workers Intl. Union, (USW), Local 9342

Renewal agreement: Effective May 1, 2018, to April 30, 2022. Signed on May 15, 2018.
Paid holidays: Guardians will be required to work on following statutory holidays when requested by client: Canada Day; Labour Day; Victoria Day. Employee who works on any holiday will be paid at rate of 150%.
Vacations with pay: 4% vacation pay per pay period. 
Overtime: Time off in lieu for all hours worked after 8 hours per day or 80 hours biweekly. Time and one-half where operational requirements do not support accrual or liquidations of overtime hours.
Bereavement leave: 3 days for death of spouse, common-law spouse, child, father, mother, sister, brother, grandfather, grandmother, grandchild, mother-in-law, father-in-law. Additional day if death occurs 200 kilometres or more out of town.
Seniority – recall rights: 24 months for medical reasons where there is no reasonable likelihood of return to work.
Call-in pay: Minimum of 4 hours’ pay or time off in lieu for all hours worked on call in, whichever is greater.
Probationary period: 1 season worked. 
Discipline: Sunset clause is 24 months.
Uniforms/clothing: Employer will provide work-uniform complement (bearing appropriate insignia) of 2 shirts, 2 pair of pants, 1 ball cap, 1 patrol jacket, boots, raingear. Life cycle for replacement will be 4 seasons for jacket, raingear; 2 seasons for other items listed. Employer will supply all safety equipment required at work site.
Mileage: $0.45 per kilometre for travel required in performance of duties within patrol zone.
Sample rates of hourly pay (current):
New guardian: $22.40
Second-year guardian: $23.81
Regular guardian: $26.54
New recruit: $22.40 
Second-year guardian: $23.81
Sample rates of hourly pay (current, after 3% increase):
Regular guardian: $26.93 rising 1 step to $27.73
Editor’s notes: Humanity fund: Employer will deduct $0.01 per hour from wages of each employee for all hours worked for Steelworkers of America humanity fund. First-aid: Employee is required to have first-aid certificate as condition of employment. Employer will pay fee for renewal of first-aid course.
