Renewal agreement: Effective April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2023. Signed on Nov. 29, 2019.

Wage adjustments:

Effective April 1, 2019: 3%

Effective April 1, 2020: 3%

Effective April 1, 2021: 3%

Effective April 1, 2022: 3%

Shift premium: $3 per hour (previously $1.50 per hour) for trainers.

Paid holidays: 10 days.

Vacations with pay: 1 day per month, maximum 10 days, or 4% to start, 2 weeks or 4% after 1 year, 3 weeks or 6% after 5 years, 4 weeks or 8% after 10 years, 5 weeks or 10% after 15 years.

Overtime: Double time for any hours worked after 16 hours for emergency purposes in 24-hour period. Employees will be allowed to bank all overtime hours, including statutory holidays, at applicable rates (overtime bank will be administered by employer), maximum 48 hours.

Meal allowance: If employee works unscheduled overtime, of which employee is not notified in advance of commencement of regular shift, and employee works for longer than 3 hours of overtime, employee will receive $10 food voucher provided by employer on same day as hours worked.

Medical benefits: Employer pays 50% of premiums, employee pays 50% of premiums.

AD&D: Employee pays 100% of premiums.

Life insurance: Employee pays 100% of premiums.

Bereavement leave: 3 days (plus 2 unpaid days to be taken at any time starting day of death and ending 6 weeks after memorial or funeral service) for death in immediate family (husband, wife, common-law spouse, partner, children, parents, legal guardian, brother, sister, grandparents, grandchildren, person lawfully in loco parentis, parent in-law)

Seniority – recall rights: 12 consecutive months or length of site seniority, maximum 24 months. 120 days in 12-month period for employee performing temporary function outside scope of agreement.

Probationary period: 560 hours or 120 calendar days, whichever comes sooner.

Safety shoes: $200 per year.

Uniforms/clothing: Canine handlers will receive 3 new shirts, 3 pairs of pants per year, while maintaining maximum inventory of 5, plus 1 safety vest (every 2 years or as replacement required), 1 jacket.

Editor’s notes: Signing bonus: $250 for part-time employees; $500 for full-time employees. Personal leave: Employees are entitled to 5 family-care days per year, in which 3 days will be paid. Sick notes: If requested by employer, employees will be required to provide doctor’s note after 3 consecutive days of absence due to illness or injury. Employer will pay cost of note, maximum $50. Dog-handling allowances: $80 per pay period covers grooming in-home, care of dog outside working hours and small incidental items such as shampoo, cleaning supplies, poop bags and treats. Employer will reimburse expenses for dog expenses such as food, veterinary expenses, special needs or care that may be required, kennels, collars, harnesses, leashes and toys.
