Renewal agreement: Effective Aug. 10, 2020 to Aug. 9, 2025. Ratified on Aug. 10, 2020. Signed on Aug. 10, 2020.

Wage adjustments:

Effective Aug. 16, 2020: 1.5% (for all active top rate or over-scale employees)

Effective Aug. 16, 2021: 1% (for all active top rate or over-scale employees)

Effective Aug. 16, 2022: 1% (for all active top rate or over-scale employees)

Shift premium: Double time for work performed greater than 5 hours without meal period. $2 dollars per hour shift for each full hour worked between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. $0.85 per hour when employee is assigned to relieve meat manager (head meat cutter) for 2 days or more in 1 week. $1 hour for each full hour worked on float pool for meat cutters, meat clerks. Time and one-half for time worked prior to expiry of 10-hour interval for employee who is not allowed 10-hour intervals between shifts. $1 per hour for each hour worked on Sunday.

Paid holidays: 11 days.

Vacations with pay: 2 weeks or 4% after 1 year, 3 weeks or 6% after 3 years, 4 weeks or 8% after 8 years, 5 weeks or 10% after 13 years, 6 weeks or 12% after 18 years, 7 weeks or 14% after 23 years.

Overtime: Time and one-half for all time worked in excess of the daily hours; double time after 2 hours of overtime (cannot be taken as compensating time off). Time and one-half for all time worked greater than 8 hours per day or on sixth or seventh day of scheduled work week for part-time employees.

Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums for Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP). Employer will contribute $0.25 per hour (previously $0.15 per hour) into part-time health and welfare trust fund. Effective Aug. 15, 2021: $0.10 per hour. Effective Aug. 11, 2024: $0.25 per hour.

Dental: Employer will contribute maximum $17.20 per week into Alberta Retail Meat Industry Dental Plan.

Vision: Employer pays 100% of premiums. $200 per person per 24 months for purchase, repair of prescription lens, frames. Maximum $60 reimbursement for eye exam.

Weekly indemnity: Employer pays 100% of premiums. Coverage of 70% of straight-time weekly wage.

Sick leave: 4 hours for each month of employment, maximum 208 hours.

LTD: Employer pays 100% of premiums. Maximum $2,000 per month (previously $1,800 per month).

Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of premiums.

Pension: Employer will contribute $1.45 per hour into Canadian Commercial Workers’ Industry Pension Plan (CCWIPP). Employees will contribute $0.22 per hour after 2 years; $0.40 per hour after 8 years.

Bereavement leave: Employee will be given leave of absence with pay — with consideration given to travel time — for purpose of attending funeral of someone in immediate family (spouse, parent, stepparent, child, brother, sister, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandmother, grandmother-in-law, grandfather, grandfather-in-law, grandchildren, any relative living in household of employee). 1 week’s leave of absence with pay for death of spouse, father, mother, child of employee. 1 day for death of aunt, uncle, nephew, niece. Unpaid leave will be given for person employee is not related to but considers to be like close relative.

Seniority – recall rights: 9 consecutive months (except for approved leaves of absence) for employee has not been on active payroll of employer; after layoffs.

Call-in pay: Minimum of 4 hours of pay.

Probationary period: 200 hours worked.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 24 months for discipline notices.

Severance: 1 week per year, maximum 26 weeks, if employer purchases block-ready meats and terminates employee (after 1 year of service). 1 week of pay to start; 1 week for every year of service, maximum 20 weeks of pay, after 2 years of service for permanent closure of store.

Uniforms/clothing: Employer will furnish and launder smocks, cotton aprons, and lugger coats for each meat cutter. Employer will furnish choice of either vinyl or cotton apron for meat, fish, deli clerks. Appropriate coats will be provided for employees when working in holding coolers or freezing units. Employer will provide 2 shirts to each employee.

Signing bonus: All active employees on payroll of employer hired prior to ratification will receive 2% lump-sum payment less statutory deductions based on all regular hours worked or paid at rate earned between March 19, 2017 until Saturday following ratification.

Editor’s notes: Appearance as witness on employer’s business: Maximum 8 hours of pay, minimum 4 hours of pay. Employees must return all fees provided to them by court greater than $10. Employees who are reimbursed by court for incidental expenses such as mileage or parking may keep reimbursements. Hearing aids: $350 every 4 years. Medical reports: Employer will pay full cost for report required by employer for weekly indemnity benefits, maximum $50, maximum 3 reports related to specific claim. Transfers: When employee is transferred to another store during work shift, employee will be paid for all time spent en route from 1 store to other and will be paid bus fare or ($0.45) cents per kilometre when using own vehicle. Education fund: Employer will contribute $0.13 per hour to United Food and Commercial Workers Canada Union, Local 401 Education and Training Fund.
