Renewal agreement: Effective Sept. 1, 2019 to Aug. 31, 2022. Signed on Nov. 19, 2019.

Wage adjustments:

Effective Sept. 1, 2019: 1%

Effective Sept. 1, 2020: 1%

Effective Sept. 1, 2021: 1%

Paid holidays: 11 days.

Medical benefits: Employer pays $48,000 per year (previously $45,000 per year) to fund union-administered benefit plan. Effective Sept. 1, 2021: $49,000 per year.

Sick leave: 2.5 hours for each one-quarter of 1 full appointment. May be accumulated maximum 38 hours. 10 days, without pay, because of personal illness, injury, medical emergency for employee or for members of close family.

Bereavement leave: 3 consecutive paid working days for death of parent, stepparent, foster-parent, sibling, child, parent-in-law, sibling-in-law, grandparent. 1 extra paid day to attend funeral if it is more than 320 kilometres from Ottawa; 2 extra paid days if funeral is more than 640 kilometres from Ottawa.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 12 months for any discipline or warning.

Sample rates of hourly pay (current, after 1% increase):

Teaching assistant/demonstrator/lab monitor/research assistant, tutor (graduate studies): $44.86 rising 1 step to $45.31

Marker (graduate studies): $32.70 rising 1 step to $33.03

Proctor (graduate studies): $31.76 rising 1 step to $32.07

Teaching assistant/demonstrator/lab monitor/research assistant/tutor (undergraduate studies): $28.47 rising 1 step to $28.75

Marker (undergraduate studies): $27.26 rising 1 step to $27.53

Proctor (undergraduate studies): $26.46 rising 1 step to $26.72

Co-op research assistants (graduate studies): $20.07 (stage 1)/$25.23 (stage 4) rising 1 step to $20.27 (stage 1)/$25.48 (stage 4)

Co-op research assistants (undergraduate): $15.31 (stage 1)/$20.07 (stage 5) rising 1 step to $15.47 (stage 1)/$20.27 (stage 5)

1 full appointment totals 130 hours per year of study.

Editor’s notes: Religious holidays: Employees are entitled to observe religious holidays other than statutory holidays with at least 10 working days’ notice. Gender-affirmation leave: Maximum 1 month at regular rate of pay to undergo medical procedures related to gender affirmation with attestation from qualified health practitioner. Student status: If employee is not registered as student at start of work set out in contract, contract will be considered void. Training pay: If employer requires employee to attend orientation program or any workshops, time spent will either be considered hours worked as part of contract or will be remunerated through separate contract. If employee chooses to attend orientation program or any workshops that were not required by employer, time spent will be considered time worked maximum 5% of total hours of employee’s contract. Conference fund: Employer will remit $36,000 per year (previously $35,000 per year) into conference fund for presenting research that is not part of employee’s thesis. Effective Sept. 1, 2021: $37,000 per year. Any remaining funds in given academic year will be carried forward to subsequent academic years. Parking: Employee may receive parking permit which will entitle them to park in University of Ottawa parking lots not reserved for pay-and-display, parking meters or other restricted areas any time on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays.
